Those types of viruses don't leave even if you tried deleting it. I had one late last year and it ended up in me having to reformat my computer because they are so hard to locate in the registery. Best option for you to is save important files, logs whatever onto CDs and have a technician reformat your computer. Because after you reinstall windows, you have to call Microsoft to re-register your computer and you'll need sighted assistance.

Well if the virus hasn't let loose yet, it may not be so bad. You can always do a search for the file that was detected and remove it that way, making sure that it is totally gone from the recycle bin. But if it has turned loose on your system it can be difficult to get the whole thing out and reformatting may be an option. I did a disk scan once before running Norton and open a trojan. It went through and killed a good bit of drivers and system files.

blind-bandit, I had MSAS locate the Trojen, but my licensed computer repair tech told me that it'd be best to just reformat the computer. Regardless if it let loose or not. And one last thing: I always thought that when it shows in anti virus or anti sspyware programs that once it shows that means you have it? Tell me this is a lie?

What is msa or what ever it is you are talking about?

See part of my topic ddin't make it up. Also wanted to know that once anti virus/spyware programs picked it up it ment that you already have it. That there isn't a term for viruses letting loose. The damage is already beginning. Grrr where's my techie when I need him?

it depends. Some viruses have a specific "set date" at which they become active in the system. In other words, you might have a trojan but notice nothing different about your system until it becomes active.

Go to www.symantec.com/sarc and search the virus encyclopedia for WinFixerVirus or at least winfixer. You should be able to locate removal instructions, and possibly even a removal tool which you can download from the Symantec website. You may have to boot in safe mode in order to remove the virus. For those of you who don't know, there are JAWS and Window-Eyes forums at www.savemybutt.com. This is also an excellent website to obtain help with technical problems from individuals more knowledgeable than the people on the zone.

That link I posted was outdated. Go to securityresponse.symantec.com and search for winfixer. Follow the removal instructions.
